I would suggest a full page ad in the local newspaper, of each miscreant, with a pic of the miscreant urinating on the wall.

Then a good full face pic of him and a biography of his life, including current address and employer.

That should be a good deterrent for future miscreants contemplating the act.

I’m sure that there are some drill sergeant types within our forces that would welcome the opportunity to behavior-modify cretins such as this.

A few points though:

This should be a longer-term sentence. The alleged perpetrators' sentences would be completed when their instructors felt that they had been rehabilitated thus *earning* release. This should get around those who would be there under duress, but not wish to participate. Who knows, perhaps with a bunch of discipline under their belts, some would wish to join the regular military.

Separating the miscreants from the regulars would be important.
We wouldn’t wish that the jerks could influence any of the good guys from their chosen course. Neither would we wish for the possibility of a good guy getting into trouble for… uhmmm… *practicing* hand to hand combat training with a less-desirable during an off-training time period. <g>

My 23 YO son graduated from Canada’s “Boot Camp” last November.
Even though the candidates are carefully screened and have to pass physical fitness requirements, out of 60 students starting in his class, 39 graduated after 11 weeks. One or more did not graduate due to injury, and were transferred to a new class when physically able.

The Commander had a suggestion for punishment which may accomplish the twin goals of punishment and deterrent.

Conscript them into the armed forces for a few years, but with a special twist: keep them in the "boot camp" phase for the whole time.

Maybe the drill sergeants can teach them values where our society has so obviously failed.

Personally, I find the act they perpetrated so repugnant that I am at a loss to figure out any appropriate punishment. Perhaps they should be released on their own recognisance. A suitable place for the release might be in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

Seriously though, I think a heavy fine with a possible thirty-day incarceration (second offense) would go a long ways in reminding people to act if they had an education, class, and some respect for those who serve by those who would most likely hide if called upon.

We recently celebrated Canada Day, July 1. In our capital, Ottawa, fireworks marked the occasion. After the fireworks display, three people urinated on a nearby war memorial.

For some time, a guy wanted this war memorial guarded. Authorities deemed this unnecessary. The guy decided that the job was worth doing, and decided to do it himself. He photographed the fellows peeing.

Since then, they've been identified.

A member of parliament is calling for changes in our Criminal Code. He want's a special punishments for crimes like this.

Question...

What would be a suitable punishment?

Any suggestions?

While this might be construed as political, I think it fits as a rant.

I really don't know about the rest of you, but this whole move by our resident president to force a vote on the proposed Gay Marriage amendment seems totally stupid to me. What a waste of time. I have been a conservative since I became able to think for myself, which was some time during my high school years, but what does this have to do with why we sent these turkeys to Washington in the first place?

This country is beset with important problems. Here is a list of things I wish my congresscritters would work on instead:
Balance the budget
Fix Social Security
Deal with skyrocketing medical costs and the cost of medical insurance.
Do something effective about our dependence upon foreign oil.
Gain control of our borders and expell all (I mean every dammed one) of the undocumented and illegal aliens here.
Fix an educational system that used to give Americans the chance at upward mobility and now dooms many to failure as human beings.

I am sure there are more equally important things for them to be working on, but instead, they dither about such minutiae. Maybe the time is here to send them all home to get real jobs, enact term limits, and reform the legislative process to eliminate pork barrel amendments.

My son moved to CT. this past week which depressed me deeply.

After he moved back home to get his BA we developed a lifelong friendship other than a father and son relationship.

I'm glad to get my garage back and have been spending a lot of time out there the past few days getting things back to the way I want them.

I ordered software from this site, as soon as the made the charge my bank called me and told me they are on a suspect seller list. this made me suspicious so i started doing some research and these guys that a TON of domain names all registered to a different person with a bad phone number. The customer support number in the bottom of this email is an answering machine and let me tell you does it have a weird ring, almost like an international call. What company wants you to send them a copy of your DL for verification, that seems like a sure sign of a phishing expedition. Also the formatting of the email is off a bit, I dont think you can tell from the paste job in here but the format if off and i dont think a reputable company would have a form letter they send out that was formatted incorectly. Everything about this "company" seems fishy I have left numerous messages at the numbers supplied in the letter and have heard nothing.

I just checked, and www.soft4download.com (redirected to www.oem4download.com) is registered and administered in places like Latvia, China, and Russia, probably to avoid anti-piracy and other consumer safeguards. And you won't find a physical address or phone number for these folks anywhere. I strongly suspect their wares are not legit...

I just heard about a too good to be true type of software offer. MS Office full version for $60, when it regularly sells for like $400-500. Apparently the justification was that it was downloaded only, and you did not get the packaging and CD backup, thus saving the cost. I would guess that packaging costs less than $5, so that made me suspicious. Anyhow, about 90% of the rest of this post was copied from me email reply after investigating the site in question.

Looks like its actually a rather large, sophisticated scam. That domain name, www.teamsoftwareusa.net was only registered on Oct 31st of this year, and was only registered for 1 year. People who do scams often only register a domain for 1 year (the minimum) b/c they only plan to use it for a couple of months and then the scam is up and they use a different domain name. I tried doing searches on them but it appears as though there isn't even really a company name. So, I tried taking some text from their site:

"…in selling the products for private purposes only! You will not be able to get a technical support and different rebates from the manufacturer. Updates are available for the most of our products (you may ask our support…"

and searched on that in Google. What you'll find is alot of different websites with different domains that are all essentially the same site. Looks like they just recycle the same site and keep moving it to a different domain every couple months to avoid being caught. They also do some SEO tricks to spam the search engines so you won't find anything bad if you search on their name, just a bunch of other software sites, none of which actually mention them. The fact that they move their URL every few months is more than enough to make me worry. They also don't seem to have a phone number on their site, also questionable. Lastly, the site says:

"We offer the software for downloading only, it means that you do not receive a fancy package, a printed manual and license that actually aggregate the largest part of the retail price."

In reading that again, it says you DONT GET A LICENSE. Unless I'm mistaken, it is the license to use that software that makes it a legal version versus an illegal version. I'm pretty sure its a scam - smells like a duck, walks like a duck…

The name of the www.teamsoftwareusa.net site is "Discounter Online", but the domain is registered to the company name of "Software Online", neither of which match the URL. The domain is registered to Peter Buckley of Mill Valley, California. I also found the generic names "Software Now" and "Downloadable Software", each of which was in Google's index but the sites no longer exist. Other possible domains in this scam:

I was in a hurry and purchased a copy XP Pro from these people, I could not get the software to work, so tried calling them for many days. When I finally got them to answer the phone it was a woman that new nothing, and I could hear her dishes clanging in the background. I then went to googIe. I immediately called the bank and rescinded the charge, and I have ordered new cards for the wife and myself.

I usually check everything before hand, but as we all know; Haste Makes Waste!

"Hello,

My suggestions are as follows; by avoiding a direct 'complaint' selection in your ‘Contact hp’ areas you are annoying, frustrating and, or angering your customer base. I have now been on your website for over ten minutes. In today's world if one must spend longer than one minute trying to use a site it is not efficient, nor is 'top notch' as one would expect of somebody with a reputation such as Hewlett Packard. If one spends more than fives minutes trying navigate a website it's not only not user-friendly, it’s lacking proper customer care, not to mention rude and inexcusable, JMO!

The reason I'm so frustrated is this; I bought a HP Scanjet 4600 a few weeks back. After I got home I found I had no USB interface/power adapter cord. After arguing with an Office Depot manager on my return trip to the store, I received a cord from another package. Upon returning home I tried to use the flatbed hinge unit, the clips on this thing are so week it wouldn't stay on even if it did fit, which it didn’t! After weeks of procrastination due mostly to my discomfort with the whole affair, I think I’ve tracked down the problem.

I believe you have mistakenly sold me the 4670 scanner. My cord goes straight out the back on the left, and therefore will not fit the holder supplied. From the pictures of the Scanjet 4600 I see that the cord comes off of the left side near the back. So you see I have no holder at all, and most of my scanning requires one. Not having one is a real pain in the neck.

I have both a HP scanner and printer; being a loyal customer even after this last hassle, I'm writing in hopes that you'll take mercy on my predicament and send me a free stand/holder or whatever else is needed for what I have and believe to be the HP 4670 Scanjet.

I guess the thing that pizzes me off so much about this is that if she had just told the SEC "yeah. I guess I did something wrong. How much do I owe you?" A blind man has been arrested in Scotland after witnesses reported he sank his teeth into his guide dog’s head and then kicked the Labrador-retriever mix after it apparently wouldn’t help him across a busy street.

A witness who said he saw the attack outside a busy shopping center in the Scottish capital Edinburgh reported the incident to police.

After several days investigation, officers arrested David Todd, 34, on charges of cruelty to animals and breach of the peace.

A police spokeswoman said the 8-year-old dog had been handed over to a charity dedicated to guide dogs.

The alleged attack has outraged animal rights activists and the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, which provided Todd with the dog.

Association spokesman Colin Gallagher said that Todd could lose his dog if he is convicted of the abuse charge.

“Cases of abuse by owners on their guide dogs are few and far between, but we can withdraw the dog on a permanent basis,” Gallagher told the Edinbugh Evening News.

If the dog is withdrawn, the association trains the blind person to use a white stick while walking, he said.
