Cathay Pacific Named Airline of the Year by Air Transport World Magazine
Friday January 27, 9:00 am ET
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 2006--Penton Media, Inc. (OTCBB:PTON - News):
Air Transport World magazine, the leading monthly magazine covering the global airline industry, selected Cathay Pacific Airways as its Airline of the Year for 2006. "One of the world's largest and most profitable airlines," Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific "is respected and admired among peers for its unwavering commitment to safety, technical excellence and customer service," ATW's editors said.
ATW Editorial Director J.A. Donoghue added: "Cathay Pacific has been among the elite of the world's airlines for several decades. Its dedication to airline business fundamentals helped it to survive potentially devastating events such as the SARS crisis and 9/11 with its employee group intact and happy and its string of profitable years undisturbed."
Other award winners include VLM Airlines, named ATW's Regional Airline of the Year. Based in Antwerp, Belgium, VLM "is a rarity among Regionals today. It is independently owned, flying in its own livery without business links to a larger carrier, connecting busy business centers in Western Europe with a fleet of Fokker 50s and staying profitable for seven consecutive years," ATW's editors said.
JetBlue Airways received ATW's Passenger Service Award for its innovations. "It has changed passenger perceptions and raised expectations of what a 'budget' airline can and should be," the editors said. These innovations include automating passenger processing, leather seats with generous pitch and Live TV entertainment with a choice of 36 channels throughout the airplane, amenities unheard of in a so-called Low Cost Carrier.
Gol, "The Intelligent Airline", received the Market Leadership Award for bringing the Low Cost Carrier revolution to the Brazilian market. Gol "is transforming the way people travel in Brazil," pricing its product to compete with intercity bus lines. "With a route network that encompasses 47 destinations served by more than 430 daily flights," Gol has captured nearly one-third of the Brazilian domestic market.
Korean Air was named the Phoenix Award winner, presented to airlines that have gone through a major transformation. "In the late 1990s Korean's management decided a complete overhaul was needed and the company began to methodically move in the right direction." Today Korean's goal of becoming one of the best ten airlines in the world by 2010 "is highly credible," ATW said. The Joseph S. Murphy Industry Service Award was presented to the International Air Transport Association for a wide range of activities, ATW said, including opening new time and fuel-saving air routes, fighting unjustified taxes and charges, and developing new business and operating standards that increase efficiencies in airlines around the world.
Embraer, the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer, received the Aviation Technology Achievement Award for its Embraer 170/190 family of large regional jets that brought new levels of technology and passenger comfort to the world's airlines.
The awards will be presented on Monday, February 20, in Singapore on the eve of the Singapore Air Show at Air Transport World's Gala Awards Dinner at the Swissotel The Stamford. Event registration is at http://conference.atwonline.com.
Air Transport World is the leading monthly magazine serving the airline and commercial aircraft manufacturing industries. The magazine began its annual awards program in 1974 to recognize excellence in the airline and commercial aerospace industries. Air Transport World is published by Ohio-based Penton Media (OTCBB:PTON - News), a diversified, global business-to-business media company.

Vertical Search Engine for CFOs Launched by Penton Media
Wednesday February 1, 8:00 am ET
NORWALK, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 2006--SearchFinance.com, a vertical search engine and directory serving CFOs and the corporate finance market, was launched today by Penton Media (OTCBB: PTON - News). Indexing the top government, commercial, trade association and publisher web sites, SearchFinance.com allows users to conduct focused searches on topics related to corporate finance.
"SearchFinance.com was developed to satisfy a very distinct need in the marketplace among business executives to find relevant and reliable resources online in subject areas related to their business needs," said Ken Downie, editor-in-chief of SearchFinance.com. "The all-inclusive primary search engines are undeniably powerful research tools, but CFOs and senior business and finance executives have very specific information needs. It's not easy to find business information online - regulatory guidelines, benchmark data, advisory white papers, for example - unless you know exactly where you want to go, or have a good deal of time to spend searching. SearchFinance.com was designed to help these busy decision-makers find what they need."
Using a customized search algorithm, SearchFinance.com limits its searches to web sites that have been pre-selected based on their depth of content and relevance to business and finance executives at mid-tier and larger organizations (greater than $100 million in annual revenue). SearchFinance.com's editorial team has hand-selected the most relevant web sites and organized them by business topic (e.g., internal audit, pensions, etc.) and by source (regulatory bodies, agencies, academic resources, etc.). Searches can be conducted by keyword or via pre-defined index pages organized by category.
"The site will help busy executives search and find timely, comprehensive, and useful information resources on the range of issues - from compliance to tax to business insurance - that they're responsible for," Downie said. "Also, as the web is a constantly evolving medium, we will add new resources to SearchFinance.com as they become available."
SearchFinance.com accepts keyword-based advertising as well as run-of-site opportunities. For more information on advertising, please visit http://www.searchfinance.com/advertise.html.

Penton currently publishes over 50 different magazines spanning an array of interests and markets. Publication support offered to Associations will leverage these capabilities by offering award-winning editorial, design, production and distribution. Publication formats will include printed magazines, newsletters, electronic magazines and e-Newsletters.
Web-based products and services have been the fastest growing and most requested areas at Penton. Interactive Web sites, eZines, e-Newsletters, Webcasts and Online Trade shows are among several services offered.
Advertising sales support is an area that few custom publishers provide to their clients. However, Penton has created a dedicated Ad Sales group and also leverages the ad sales teams of the many publications it produces. Penton is able to offer help in selling ads for magazines; banner ads for online media; exhibitor space for conferences or trade shows; and sponsorships for a variety of programs.
Trade show and conference support is a key service for Associations and Foundations. Penton now can assist with the planning and execution of events, selling participation to exhibitors and sponsors and conducting online trade shows.
"Not only have we pulled together the services that Associations and Foundations want and need," said Pulizzi, "but we've also assembled an amazing team to work with Association clients. Our team is headed by Kenneth Hansen, Thomas Corcoran and Terrence Grogan - all experienced and accomplished professionals."
Kenneth Hansen will lead the team and head up the Washington, DC office. Ken most recently was in charge of business development at The Magazine Group where he helped clients with strategy, planning and execution. "It's such an honor to represent Penton in this great market with this range of top-rated services," said Hansen. "I don't know of any other company that can produce an award-winning publication, present an interactive trade show and sell the advertising to help pay for these activities. We will be able to offer as many services as a client needs."
Thomas Corcoran, an industry veteran, brings many years of experience and national expertise to this team, including President of Custom Publishing at The Magazine Group. He will focus on ad sales, trade show exhibitor participation, online ad sales and sponsorship activities. "Advertising partners can provide a lot of support to Association clients," said Corcoran, "and we can help bring together the right partners to defray the costs of magazines, trade shows and online activities."
Terrence Grogan recently joined Penton after a successful stint as both President of Sports Challenge Group and President of Professional Trade Shows. Widely known as an expert in marketing and event operations, he will coordinate Penton's diverse resources to tailor the most effective program for Association clients. "I believe clients will see real value in our ability to provide an integrated marketing program," Grogan said.
Penton's custom marketing division, Penton Custom Media, currently works with over 20 associations, including the American Red Cross, USTelecom Association, the National Medical Association, and the National Association of Manufacturers.

Healthy Customers, Healthy Profits

Healthful Menus Can Bring Profits to Restaurateurs and Foodservice Operators
Navigating Consumers' Healthier Eating Habits the Focus of March 22 Seminar
ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 27, 2006--Restaurant Hospitality and Food Management magazines and the Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) are teaming up to stage a one-day seminar to address the need for more healthful menus.
"There is little doubt that consumers are trying harder than ever before to eat more healthfully," says RH Editor Michael Sanson. "Unfortunately, too many restaurants out there believe that menuing healthful items is not profitable. This seminar will demonstrate that doing so will not only meet a growing demand, but will also help boost the bottom line of restaurateurs who embrace this trend."
A highlight of the Healthy Customers, Healthy Profits Seminar at the Anaheim Hilton will be a keynote address by George Naddaff, creator of the Boston Market chain. Naddaff was among the first to recognize the need for home meal replacement (nicely packaged take-out family meals). He believes his newest concept, KnowFat Grille, is the prototype for how savvy restaurants will operate in the future.
"Baby boomers are getting older and they no longer think they're immortal," says Naddaff. "But they are not interested in eating boring, healthy food with no flavor. At KnowFat we offer what we call better-for-you-foods. You can order a cheeseburger, for example, but it will be on a whole-wheat bun, with low-fat cheese and topped with turkey bacon. And, most importantly, it's delicious."
Another item on the agenda is an operators' panel, which will feature Wynelle Stein of the legendary Moosewood restaurant in Ithaca, NY. Joining her will be Michael Halter of Lucia's restaurant in Pacific Palisades, CA; Patrice Barber from the University of Southern California and Enid Hohn of the Vista, CA, school district.
Moosewood, of which Stein is a co-owner, has embraced the healthful food trend for more than 20 years. It has proven that a foodservice operation can thrive serving better-for-you food if the food is tasty. Wynelle is the co-author of six Moosewood Restaurant cookbooks.
Also on the seminar agenda are presentations by the president and the nutrition marketing manager from PBH. One will focus on consumer insights about healthful eating and how you can profit from the trend; the other will offer nuts-and-bolts advice on how to market to this growing segment to increase sales.
Dr. A. Elizabeth Sloan will discuss how this trend is real and here to stay, backing up her comments with real-world examples. Plus, Anita Jones of Healthy Dining, an organization of nutrition professionals, will unveil a new nationwide marketing campaign that will promote restaurants offering a selection of healthier menu items. She'll explain how you can be featured on the high-profile website HealthyDiningFinder.com, which launches in June.
