You guys get the honor of seeing it 1st, ENJOY!

The new ones are not all that hard to work on.
Harder, yes.
But the slightly above average backyard mechanic can still do it with the right information and tools.
Phil
I should have kept the old 75 Chevy. I could crawl all over inside the engine compartment to work on things. Todays vehicles are too high tech for me. Too much crap in the way.
Thanks again!
MBR,
I would invest in a Helm's service manual for the vehicle if you plan on keeping it.
In the manual, I would bet money that you would find that the service engine light would come on automatically around 60K miles.
It would also tell you how to turn it off.
When you mentioned the co2 sensor, I think you are referring to the oxygen sensor, or the O2 sensor.
The manual will tell you how determine in the sensor needs to be replaced.
Here is a link to the Helm website:

Sounding more and more like a leaking water pump.
First they only leak when the vehicle is running, so you never know it.
Then they leak intermittantly when you stop.
Then then get progressively worse.
Once the vehicle is out of warranty, never take it back to the dealership.
Like you posted, in my opinion they are professional crooks.
Good luck,
Phil
It seems it leaks the worst if I just start it up and pull it in or out of the shop and turn it off.
Yes, I find drops/small puddles maybe every 3rd or 4th time it's ran. It's gradually gotten worse. Used to be maybe once every other month or more. I had just figured it was some overflow or something. Just drove it home from the dealership and it hasn't leaked a drop since I parked it. Last week it leaked once about a half a pint which made me decide to take it in.
Never heard of a "quick disconnect" myself. He says it's on the hose that goes into the manifold and it should be replaced at the same time. I don't know, maybe it's a new name for "clamp" lol!
Get this...... I took it in for it's 60,000 mile service about a month or so ago. The service engine light happened to come on just before I took it in. They said it appeared I didn't click the gas cap at least 3 times. Huh? That's never happened before in the past 7 years.
Well, the service engine light came back on and now they say it's 2 faulty codes that have to do with the co2 sensors..... Mo-Money!
They had also serviced the transmission. Which I also found a few drops of what I thought was tranny fluid while checking for coolant on the shop floor. They claim it's not the tranny, it's my transfer case now leaking..... Mo-Money!
New total estimate........ $1,850.00 plus tax!
WTF! I take it in for it's regular maintenance and the damn thing starts falling apart within 500 miles of the service.
I've been screwed so many times by so called "professionals" that I've become extremely paranoid/leery of these crooks. I can't pick an honest "professional" worth crap! lol! Professional thieves is what they are.
I've got a couple other sources I can check out too.
Your thoughts/knowledge/opinions are much appreciated. Thank you!
I say Bullshit too.
When it does leak,
Is it visible on the ground?
IOW, do you ever see it?
Water pumps will sometimes leak intermittantly.
I don't think it could be the intake manifold and leak intermittantly.
Where is this "quick disconnect" located?
Have you noticed any signs of leakage around it?
Can it be replaced with pipe thread type fittings?
$1100 is ridiculous.
I would let it leak until it can be found easily.
But I would lean towards thinking it is the water pump.
Phil
Phil (Master Mechanic).
Got a question mister wizard...... I took my '99' Chevy Silverado in for a coolant leak diagnosis. They came back with a supposed leaking water pump, intake manifold, and some quick disconnect. $1,100.00 plus for repairs.
Problem is, it only leaks occasionally. I find it hard to believe that there are 3 points of leakage but it only leaks now and then.
I call BULLSHIT!
What do you think?
I love GM products.
My first car was a brand new 1979 Malibu and it lasted 12 years without any problems. It had one odd quirky part in the ignition that had to be replaced every 50,000kms at a cost of about $75. Otherwise maintenance was very reasonable. The last I heard a young lad drove it for a few more years and then donated to a workshop at the local high school.
I had several Celebritys (1986 and 1989), Camaros Z28 (1969-1973-1974-1981), and a Park Avenue 1991 (that I still own). They all were very reliable and cheap to fix and maintain.
I swayed once and bought a Nissan Stanza and it was such a disaster that I unloaded it after 6 months.
I also liked the Mustang that friend lent me out West for a summer and my uncle had a Daytona that was quite an eyecatcher.
"Sometimes you can find signs of overspray on top of the undercoating"
That's what I thought.
Thank you!
Took me a half hour to find this board.
You didn't find this one?
http://www.investorshub.com/boards/board.asp?board_id=1014
Have fun,
Phil
MBR,
The most telltale signs are to look very close at the stainless trim around the glass and look for either overspray or where the tape was applied over areas that should have been repainted.
Sometimes you can find signs of overspray on top of the undercoating, or around any chrome trim that could not be easily removed.
Also look for signs of overspray inside of the hood, trunk and doors.
I don't think anyone could repaint a car without me finding signs of it somewhere.
Have fun,
Phil
LOL! Question for the "All knowing" Phil. Or anybody else out there.......
What are some sure tell tale signs a newer vehicle has been repainted?
Ps. Took me a half hour to find this board.
Could you repeat that a couple times?
Matt,
I agree.
A mo'sheen indeed.
Bob might think it a sissy compared to his though.
LOL
Have fun,
Phil
This is the exact Dodge I want.
What a mo'sheen.
Matt,
Any good experiences with Saltwater fishing/leisure boats...say 30' or so?
You might want to ask Francis about his knowledge of boats in that class.
The only problem is that he may only be able to give you info on "botes".
IE: sailbotes
My experience runs to boats up to the 25' outboard class.
Have fun,
Phil
Matt,
I doubt I'll ever drive a car.
The only time I have ever been without a truck as my main vehicle was the times that I have been furnished a car by my employers as a business vehicle. Even then, I had a truck for my "weekend" vehicle.
I love 4X4's especially, and cannot remember anytime in the last 30 years that I did not own one.
It is so cool to be able to go to the store for my neighbors when they get snowed in and cannot get their rice burners out of their driveways.
On the subject of snow, about two years ago, at Xmas time, we had a major ice storm here. So severe that we were out of electricity for five days. Unheard of here. I had a little 1100W generator that would run the TV and lights in my den. I was one of a very few that had Xmas lights that week. If we turned the TV off we could vacuum the floor or toast bread. My wife thought she could run the TV, lights, toast bread and vacuum all at the same time. She blew the breaker on the generator. It goes on from there, but took me about an hour to figure out what happened. We cooked Xmas dinner (standing rib roast and yorkshire pudding) on my gas grill.
Right after the Y2K debacle, I bought a 5500W generator that will almost run my whole house, if I manage it. (not counting the heat pump, But I have a wood stove insert in my fireplace).
In two winters, I have yet to crank the generator because of a power outage.
My point?
Like a 4X4, a generator is nice to have when you need it.
Can you live without either?
Sure.
Can you be self sufficient without either?
Depends on where you live and who your neighbors are.
Give me a 4x4, a generator, plenty of gas, a gun and plenty of ammo, I could sustain a community for a while.
Have fun,
Phil

Also looking to buy a decent size boat before the summer rolls around.
Any good experiences with Saltwater fishing/leisure boats...say 30' or so?
I have had zero problems with my truck.
I've only put about 35k miles on it, though.
The Dodge's stack up best to me interior and exterior-wise. The interior is really simple. While the exterior is really bold looking. Especially the new ones. The engine is a workhorse .
http://www.4adodge.com/ram_truck/
My dad is getting one of the 3500's with v10 cummins diesel for work. Really interested to see how that works for out for him.
My truck is stock everything. I've never had enough time to really tinker with anything. Not even the tires/rims. The Sport took care of all that for me.
But I'm really wanting one of the Quad Cab 2002 Blue 1500 Rams...
I doubt I'll ever drive a car.

Matt,
I was thinking about a Dodge Dakota when I bought my F150 but the deal was too sweet on the Ford.
I have had Zero problems with it until the other day. I stopped at a store to buy a drink and when I got back in it would turn over but would not start. I called Ford. They had it towed to the dealer of my choice, (about twenty miles from where it broke down) and fixed it at zero cost to me.
Turned out it was the theft device that reads the keys to keep an unauthorized key from starting it. The electronic crap they keep putting in the vehicles causes more and more problems.
How do you like your current Dodge. I assume you like it OK, since you are considering another.
I have always been a GM guy, but was assigned an F150 to drive in a recent job and loved it so much that I bought one.
I kind of like the new GM trucks, so If I were to trade in anytime soon, I would condsider one.

99 Dodge Ram. Black, sport.
Fixing to shop around and buy a 2002 Dodge Ram Quad Cab. One sweet machine.
MB
Matt,
What do you drive, Phil?
What time of the week?
LOL
I have about ten vehicles registered in my name. I drive all of them, but mostly I drive a '99 F150 SuperCab 4X4.
And you?
Have fun,
Phil
What do you drive, Phil?
Edit:
I was trying to post a picture I recieved VIA hotmail.
I can't do it.
I hate hotmail.
Have fun,
Phil
I doubt anyone cares, but I'm here.
Have fun,
Because you can.
Terrorists beware,
Because you must.
Phil
Bob, would you please change (or tell me how to change) the ticker symbol of these thread? I suggest MOTOR.
Thanks,
Sam
thank you sam. eom
Yeah, I agree... it was meant as a temporary poke at Bob and CoB... I guess the joke was too subtle.
Anyway, I figured I could edit it later but now see I can't. Will have to ask Bob to fix it for me.
Sam
Nice, nice 66 ChevyII.
you should not be used the General Motors ticker symbol. it should be used for the actual investment board. eom
I think you should post something about a car and lighten up.
http://home.att.net/~corranhorn/ChevyII2.jpg
I think you guys should use the correct company name for this board. very tacky. eom
Can I say here that GM products suck?
Normally, I might wield my CoB powers, but since you know what I think of CoB, I won't.
My Camaro wants to be a Corvette when it grows up... more on that later.
Sam
Pontiac = Poor Ole Ned Thinks It's a Cadilac!
FIAT = Fix it again, Tony.
GM = Get Mechanic (there's still life present)
FORD = Found on Road Dead (bury it)
hehehe
lol
Cool!
Can I say here that GM products suck? Probably not. hehe
Seriously, I wouldn't mind having a Camaro or a Corvette. Just don't tell my 'stangs I said that.
