My first car was a brand new 1979 Malibu and it lasted 12 years without any problems. It had one odd quirky part in the ignition that had to be replaced every 50,000kms at a cost of about $75. Otherwise maintenance was very reasonable. The last I heard a young lad drove it for a few more years and then donated to a workshop at the local high school.
I had several Celebritys (1986 and 1989), Camaros Z28 (1969-1973-1974-1981), and a Park Avenue 1991 (that I still own). They all were very reliable and cheap to fix and maintain.
I swayed once and bought a Nissan Stanza and it was such a disaster that I unloaded it after 6 months.
I also liked the Mustang that friend lent me out West for a summer and my uncle had a Daytona that was quite an eyecatcher.
