Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) has launched a recall covering 272,645 vehicles across the United States after identifying a defect that could compromise the parking function and allow affected vehicles to move unexpectedly.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Friday that the action involves a range of Ford electric and hybrid models. Impacted vehicles include certain model-year 2022 to 2026 F-150 Lightning battery-electric trucks, 2024 to 2026 Mustang Mach-E SUVs, and 2025 to 2026 Maverick pickups.
Regulators explained that the problem stems from the vehicles’ integrated park module, which in some cases may not fully engage the park position when the driver selects it. If the system fails, the vehicle could roll away, increasing the risk of collisions.
Ford said it will correct the issue through a software update to the park module. The remedy will be delivered either via an over-the-air update or through a visit to a Ford dealer, with all repairs carried out at no cost to owners.
