hi barge,

with micron, kingston, intel, lenovo and samsung, it looks like solms is trying to rejig wave's oem relationships.

i wonder if he is doing so in a way that will generate revenues. or put another way, i wonder how he intends to generate revenues from these relationships.

wave has at least three ways to generate revenues: from development with supply chain partners; from production with supply chain partners; and from end users.

here's what was revealed in the micron announcement:

"The companies are targeting the second half of 2014 for future announcements regarding products in development."

okay. nothing about revenues.

kingston:

"Enterprise customers looking for the TCG Opal 1.0 compliant KC300 solid state drive should contact their local Kingston sales representative and for more information about Wave, visit http://www.wave.com/products/embassy-remote-administration-server-self-encrypting-drives";

again, no information about wave revenues.

samsung:

"Samsung’s development of the TPM marks growing support from the global technology firm. Last month, Samsung introduced the 840 EVO solid-state (SSD) self encrypting drive that is compliant with the Opal standard from the Trusted Computing Group. Wave provides management software for the 840 EVO."

"“Samsung has demonstrated its commitment to data security and performance through the 840 EVO drives, giving end-users strong assurance that their sensitive data is safe and secure,” said Wave CEO Bill Solms. “Wave is honored to support Samsung’s new drive series and to have our management suite validated by Samsung.”

The combined solution will be made available to customers through trusted channel partners such as CDW and SHI, as well as large original equipment manufacturers (OEMs)."

hmmm. no indication about money.

intel:

"To meet the needs of enterprise IT departments required to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access, the Intel SSD Pro 1500 Series offers improved security and manageability when paired with Intel vPro™ technology using Wave’s management suite which includes the EMBASSY Remote Administration Server and Wave Cloud 2014. Wave Cloud 2014 is the only cloud-managed solution for SEDs on the market today."

ouch. still no mention of a business model.

lenovo:

"Lenovo intends to make the SSD Pro 1500 Series available on selected models of T, W and X Series ThinkPads.

“Lenovo is committed to offering our ThinkPad and Ultrabook customers best-in-class security and performance,” said Jerry Fralick, Chief Security Officer, Lenovo. “Intel has raised the bar with its Intel SSD Pro 1500 series, setting a new standard for performance, battery life, ease of use and security with Opal encryption. Wave’s software gives IT all it needs for a quick and painless deployment, minimizing the time to compliance.”"

that's a royal flush.

i wonder if this is military secrecy or concealment of the fact that wave has given up on trying to garner income from its supply chain partners.

did solms talk about wave's business model in the last cc?

with the exception of dell, is wave still mostly the supply industry's free development service provider for tc?

to be or not to be the developer of embedded tc software. that is the question ... if you are concerned about the scale of future dilution.
