Did his dad really say that?? I was not there, so of course cannot say with certainty but the story has been very widely and often told here in Tennessee since it first came out during the Viet Nam war and al's dad was a Senator. Certainly al's military experience tends to verify it, and folks here generally accept it as fact. I cannot ever remember seeing a denial from al or his dad (while he was alive) or anyone who would know, and even during the recent election when it was again a subject of conversation and in print there was no denial which is unusual since even the guilty tend to deny it.
I would note that algore's campaign certainly was unwilling to ever bring up anything about Bush's military experience, even when he was desparate, so that also lends credence to both the truth of the story and the lack of proof about the Bush allegations. At the very least there is as much support for the algore story as for the Bush stories.
