PegnNJ - Yes, re-election starts upon election .. for the vast majority of them all, it seems. It will be interesting though to see how the media addresses the sure-to-come attempts by the left to outdo the right.
My guess is the left's attempts will not be nearly so publicized, or scrutinized, as was GW's carrier landing.
Being an old military man, I strongly suspect those sailors on the Lincoln were so honored to host a visit from their CINC, they wouldn't have minded any inconveninence it entailed - if it indeed did. That is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for those who are so privileged, and will probably be one of the highlights of their respective careers. I know it was for me.
