Germany didn't eexist as a country till the 1880s when Bismarck unified all the countries that now make it up.
They had a two good runs as an economy from the 1880s till 1914 and from about 1950 to 1997 or 1998.
Other than that they did nothing special. They are going back where they came from economically as the Chinese can do anything that the Germans can do except an awful lot cheaper.
