Interesting. Yes, I think they actually have been envisioning for awhile, and it's now coming together. Isn't that still in the design phase though, yet the articles say "drone-maker", "manufacturer", etc. ?
This article mentions a six-figure grant to them from NM:
Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Manufacturer, Titan Aerospace, Receives Grant To Create Jobs In Moriarty, New Mexico
According to TechCrunch, Facebook would begin by building 11,000 solar-powered atmospheric satellite drones that can remain in the air for five years without needing to land or refuel.
11,000? This sounds a lot like Project Loon -- a lot of drones (balloons) aimlessly floating around the earth.
I don't know anything about Titan Aerospace and its technology, but at first glance, $60 million seems like a ridiculously low price. However, if Titan's technology is as far along as Google's and is just as much of a half-baked idea, then $60 million might actually be too high. (JMO)
If WSGI can really produce a Stratellite, I hope they can construct some type of revenue-sharing agreement with interested parties. That would seem much more lucrative than just selling out. Of course, I suppose it depends on the offer. Maybe $1-2 billion, but $60 million? No way. A Stratellite is much more valuable than that IMO.
