i think we are starting to see stagnation of innovation in the pc market because of lack of strong competition. with increasing ultrabook prices i don't think this is good for the industry overall and intel specifically but they can bleed the golden egg laying goose while it survives.
This reinforces an idea I have of buying a couple of new Haswell systems this spring. I have a 2600k box running Win7 for me and a couple of old C2D systems running WinXP that the kids use. I'd buy a high end and a low-mid range Haswell both with Win7. I'd take the high end Haswell, retire the two C2D boxes, and give the kids my 2600k and the slower Haswell box. Bingo, no more XP in the house and a lower power bill. All remaining systems in nice quiet cool Antec mid-towers - old school!
Ashraf, this is no big deal. Intel has been relaxing its tick-tock schedule from every year to every 15 months or so. I expect the going to get even tougher as Intel moves beyond 14nm.
