#12767 RE: jjsmith77 #12764

I think it's the state of the technology as a whole that gives them the confidence.

Sigma for IPQC and EOS / Arcam / Phenix Systems(aka DDD) for printing.

Today's EOS and Arcam printers are adequate to get started for a small production run and the next gen of printers is around the corner...specifically Arcam's fastEBM technology and EOS's 4 laser DMLS. Either of which should increase printing speed 5 fold. Regardless of DDD's market cap, I believe Arcam and EOS are the true metal printing leaders, but that is another topic.

As far as Arcam goes...they actually do have process control. look up LayerCam. This could add to the theory of licensing which was an excellent point mentioned in another post. For those that haven't heard, Arcam sold a printer to an unnamed major Aerospace client shortly after announcing their new Q20 last month. That printer was designed specifically for the Aerospace industry and incorporates LayerCam.

Full disclosure, I'm also long Arcam.
