Terrible analogy when it comes to IDCC's situation and I don't agree with you. Patent values soared for a period of time when the Nortel patents were bought for a huge amount of money. Mgt sold those patents to Intel because they received a great price for them. Show me another time in your lifetime when patent prices exploded like they did. This is why mgt shopped the company around. Patent values are for the most part based on the income they either bring in or save other co's by them cross licensing with other co's.

Supply drives demand in the physical world. (Steve Jobs executed on this fact) But IP is a different animal. The idea/concept is readily available to the world and therefore can be used/stolen and provide no benefit to the originator/inventor. Without an effective system in place to protect the value of the IP the supply-demand equation is skewed. There may be plenty of demand but no affect on the price if the IP is not protected.
