I disagree dish: why should we assume share appreciation in this debate? Nothing I have seen over the last few years leads me to believe that share appreciation is a factor in IDCC management being able to cash out millions of dollars worth of stock. Why should we think *this* time will be different.
I missed Corps assumption, so I apologize for creditting you with something you didn't say -- but the point does still stand, regardless of who said it ... it is dangerous to base critical investment decisions on assumptions that really have no basis in fact, and are actually just pure speculation about what might or might not happen in the future.
If the company was worth $10 Billion by the end of the year would I be happy? Supremely. Am I going to base one single investment decision on that assumption? Not in a million years.
Trusting the BoD to self-regulate their compensation is like trusting ... errr ... well, I can't go into that without violating multiple TOS regs. Suffice to say, if you make millions of dollars available to a person and put him in a position to do pretty much whatever they want with it, isn't it reasonable to expect they will stick a large part of it right into their pocket???
