The payment system, as I understand it, would simply be a modification/expansion of the already-existing iTunes store, which currently holds credit card information for millions of accounts around the globe. With the new iBeacons systems coming into wider use, the payment system is just another extension of that. These are profit-generating transactions on a grand scale.
Again, I see no reason why Apple would care to buy LQMT. They have a much larger profit potential in their own area on consumer electronics. If you know much about Apple, you know that they purposely scaled down and eliminated the production of sideline products, like printers, because they want to keep a narrow focus on their own area. This was a tenet of Steve Jobs'. The company is not branching into anything else, not military, not drilling and fracking, and not making refrigerators or washing machines.
