1. I'm not sure one can draw proper conclusions about workstation apps before workstation infrastructure is available for the Opteron. Also, to be precise, lets not say, "due to low frequency" given the vast IPC differences. We need some other term... how about "due to the relatively faster SSE2 engine" or some such?
2. (This applies to your point 1 as well) Also remember how new the infrastructure and software support is for the Opteron. I expect you'll see further relative gains for the Opteron, not including faster clock speeds, as the platform matures.
3. Oh come on. Itanium is over 130W. 1/2 of that is 65W. Are you even arguing that 65W is too low an estimate? Even accepting 85W (which is too high) that's 65% of the power. We can say more than "it's lower".
4. Are we talking the same size wafers here?
5. Then why is no one buying them? What explains the Itanium's failure to sell well?
