I couldn't agree more. Dave Gore and RandeIs of SI were both interested in trying to push for better disclosure of short positions and some sent emails to the SEC, but it was not an organized effort. Perhaps after the wedding, we could try to establish an organized attempt. I'm sure we would get cooperation from other message boards, i.e. Raging Bull, SI, maybe even Yahoo? Nah, probably not Yahoo <G>

Zeev...

As you know, the delay in reporting short interest and specialist short interest is all about protecting the edge of the specialists and market makers. Without serious public pressure, it will not be changed.

Do the brokers know when a Buy is a Buy-to-Cover? If not, the short totals would be known only by the brokerages...

Zeev, as you know, this has been one of my biggest pet peeves! If the SEC is attempting to protect the small investor, then this would be a great step forward. Would the 'little guy' be so eager to catch the train that he *thought* might be leaving the station if he knew that a recent 5% upward move in the market was mostly due to shorts covering, and not 'fresh money' buyers? I think not.

BTW, still holding BPRX from Fri.?

Why not disclose whether a Call is sold or bought?
The Put/Call numbers would become a lot more meaningful.
I'm in on current updates.

Zeev, at Matt's suggestion I posted a request for IHUB to start a petition for the SEC based on your suggestion.. I urge everyone reading this to post to Matt on the Q&A thread:
http://www.investorshub.com/boards/board.asp?board_id=504
and expect their interest in IHUB possibly doing this...

I would be interested in how much stock is daytraded on a given day for a particular company. The number might shock us. My guess KLAC would be off the chart. Daytrading volume would be valuable so that you can see if the trading price is real or "manipulated".

I'd like to participate in such an effort. Would it help to prepare two letters, one to be sent to congressmen and the other to be sent to the SEC? Interested members could print the letters and mail them. They could also encourage others to do the same.

Zeev, the SEC is currently seeking comment on proposed rule changes re short selling. Among the questions they request the public to comment on is the following:

Q47. Would dissemination of aggregate open short positions on a daily basis decrease the necessity of Rule 10a-1? What costs would be associated with such a program?
