The sector XLB--Materials lists MON, DD, DOW, LYB, PX, FCX, IP, PPG and others, but not 3M.

“Materials” as a market sector has nothing to do with materials science (what 3M does); rather, “materials” as a market sector is a designation for natural resources, including agriculture and mining but excluding energy, which is a market sector unto itself.
