I'm not totally surprised by the results published here...I was initially a big fan of krill oil and owned stock in NEPT...My enthusiasm was based on a study of the effects of krill oil on lipid profiles..The reported results were very impressive, much better than fish oil, and even though krill oil was loaded with DHA, it managed to drop trigs and LDL-C....This study was published in the J. of Alternative Med..
The truth was the results of this study did not satisfy the Friedewald Equation, an equation that gives a mathematical relationship to the various lipid parameters..(and yes I know the Friedewald equation is not accurate when trigs are > 500mg/dl)...but this was not the case here and the Friedewald equation can be modified for higher trigs simply by changing one constant..Also every error involving krill oil's action was in favor of the idea that krill oil was superior to fish oil...the conclusion being the results were falsified..
If the ideas behind the therapeutic benefits of EPA are correct, and the evidence increases daily..We are going to need more EPA than fish oil can comfortably provide..Think of this as a commodity play..Alge looks very good, and the company should become very involved in this..(I think DuPont may be working on this)...
