Are they claiming that the patents they received in 2011 and 2012 prevent any other company using EMR technology without paying them a royalty?

EMRs were around prior to those patents and I can see where they are using this as a scam by suing providers who use another technology.

After the patent issuances of 2011 and 2012, MMR believes it holds significant foundational patents under a "Method and System for Providing Online Medical Records" and "Method and System for Providing Online Records" and that the patents are relevant to any provider who transmits Electronic Health Records in that they limit their ability to communicate without infringement.

One of the problems here is the Patent office and the fact they pretty much will hand out a patent for anything and everything. Creating all sorts of patent infringement lawsuits from trolls just making a living off lawsuits.

I see this issue as much bigger than a SEC issue. Anyone receiving those letters should have contacted the Attorney General, the FBI and Medical Association to get them involved. Sounds like extortion to me.
