Excel, you have a good point. As I am re-reading that statement I can see I didn't write what I meant:

"This happens on many levels with IDCC, royalties from manufacturers, stock options to management, share price manipulation to maximize those options, etc."

I retract that statement, at least the part about IDCC shares being manipulated to maximize options as I have no proof that this has happened although it does appear that way often enough to seem like it's more than coincidence.

That hasn't necessarily been my experience:

"If a stock has promoters they aren't going to be hanging out at the private board.
People who post on a private board are mostly made up of ones who believe in the company they are invested in and won't be selling anytime soon.
Where is a promoter going to get fresh blood on a private board?
They will be on the public board where they can pump it to new blood."

The promoters will catch their marks at the public boards and direct them to the private boards "to avoid the noise". That way they can work them over without people piping up with the pesky facts.
