wbmw, RE: 119, I love the whole tablet concept. I've said so before that I am looking at a design from Motion Computing.
I am very familiar with the Motion tablet. In fact when I was shopping around it became my second choice. I also like the NEC. I wasn’t ever even planning on purchasing a TPC until I saw the versatility and price of the TC1000. For instance I use the slate mode for casual reading, designing, taking notes, and marking up documents. I use docking station mode for development/documentation. Finally I use the notebook mode for development/documentation and airplane travel. I use all three modes to surf the net. After experiencing this type of versatility, I personally would never go with a solution that is a pure slate or pure notebook. If HP/Compaq or some other company comes out with a next generation TPC or any other gadget that I really want I will purchase it regardless of the processor.
Early on I did have some performance issues with my TC1000 in fact I stated that publicly on the Yahoo message boards last December. Since then I doubled the memory and applied the Transmeta CMS update along with some other miscellaneous XP tweaks. I often have MS Outlook, MS SourceSafe, TOAD (a third party Oracle client), MS SQLServer, JBuilder, a couple VNC sessions, and a few web browsers open at any given time. Let me re-iterate my prior post. When using my TC1000, I never ever have any performance problems whatsoever .
