The desire to live forever belongs strictly to the ego. It causes immediate dissatisfaction because we know from early on that we're going to die. It prompts many to cling to a variety of strange, aberrant ideas. So, instead of just living your life and enjoying it, you spend it in turmoil and misery until you go completely off your rocker by "letting Jesus save you".
