I didn't delete Schoffer's post because it wasn't Libelous
Francois, I'm afraid I'm a little skeptical of your professed motives, but only because I believe you're a lot smarter than that. However, if you are really concerned about libel, then I think Bob is protecting you from yourself. Let's go back to the original post which started this little tempest in a teapot. In that post, Schoffer said:
"I heard from a friend in SEC, that the shorters will be history by next week"
In this statement, Schoffer is saying that the SEC has revealed to him that they are about to take action against a group of shorters, the presumption being that they were the group previously identified on that thread. Barring an unprecedented indescretion by an SEC employee, or some other unimaginable possibility, this statement is false. Since the logical conclusion from this statement, if it were true, is that these shorters have been determined by the SEC to have broken the law, it can also be construed as libel. Someone with your extensive experience with the SEC would know, or should know, all of this. Therefore, given that you have said that you will delete all libelous posts, but you did not delete that one, you have put yourself in the position of endorsing the accuracy of that post, and you have most certainly opened yourself to a potential libel suit should that group of shorters be so inclined. I doubt it will come to that though, because I think the libel thing is a red herring anyway.
JMHO, of course.
