Goodbuddy

I may be wrong but I think the crappy Ericsson settlement happened in early 2001. IDCC bragged how this was a great deal and triggered others to pay. For years we were led to believe Ericsson owed possibly billions but IDCC clearly had stated the amount was substantial. The amount was paltry and the bastards to be best of my knowledge haven't paid us another dime.

I guess IDCC needs to look in a dictionary and see the definition of substantial. I guess substantial is really nothing as they also had a press release stating they had made substantial progress with Nokia. I guess some put them on hold when they called Nokia where before they had been getting hung up on immediately. Maybe thats substantial progress.

InterDigital, Ericsson settle lengthy patent dispute
LONDON — The long running patent infringement dispute between Ericsson and InterDigital Communications Corp. has been settled, the companies having reached a non-exclusive, world-wide, royalty-bearing license agreement covering all patents for GSM, TDMA, GPRS, EDGE and PDC held by InterDigital subsidiary InterDigital Technology Corporation (ITC).

As part if the deal all claims asserted in the patent infringement litigation between the companies have been dismissed. In exchange, Ericsson will make an annual, fixed payment through 2006 for sales of infrastructure equipment covered under the deal.

Ericsson said the royalty payments would not significantly affect the company's earnings. The agreements cover both past and future sales of the relevant products.

At the same time, Sony Ericsson and ITC have concluded a similar license agreement concerning handsets, under which Sony Ericsson will pay royalties to ITC through 2006.

For sales through December 2002, Ericsson and Sony Ericsson will pay ITC approximately $34 million. From 2003 through 2006, Ericsson will pay ITC an annual fee of $6 million for sales of infrastructure equipment.

Sony Ericsson would also pay a royalty on each licensed product sold from 2003 to 2006.
