Entrust IdentityGuard Selected to Provide Strong Authentication to 500,000 Swedish Citizens and Businesses
Entrust® solution to help lay the foundation for new online services and communication
30 Nov 2005

DALLAS – Entrust, Inc. [NASDAQ: ENTU], a world leader in securing digital identities and information, today announced that Entrust IdentityGuard, its highly acclaimed strong authentication solution for combating identity theft, has been selected by nine of Sweden’s largest public agencies to provide strong authentication to over 500,000 users. Implemented by Entrust’s strategic business partner in the Nordic market, Pointsec Mobile Technologies AB (Pointsec), Entrust IdentityGuard is expected to play an important role in the new government electronic ID platform that will be used to offer a range of new online services and secure communications to both citizens and businesses.

The Swedish Government has placed special emphasis on enabling e-government, offering a range of new services and communications to its citizens, including those that are mobile (who will contact the authorities/agencies by phone), or without access to computers in their homes. Instead of conducting transactions face to face, the electronic ID platform will allow users to leverage the Internet.

This broader implementation of Entrust IdentityGuard, one of Entrust’s top five Q2 2005 transactions, is a follow-on to an initiative started in early 2005 by the Swedish National Labor Market Board (AMS).

“With this solution in place, citizens and businesses will be able to use the Internet to manage a number of government services that currently require communication in writing, personal visits, or contacts during office hours,” said Lars Sjöström, Deputy Director of AMS. “Entrust IdentityGuard provides us with a solution that is both easy to use and cost effective while providing the necessary level of security to protect these sensitive online transactions and services.”

Entrust IdentityGuard is an easy-to-use strong authentication solution that can be integrated with Web applications or across the enterprise to secure sensitive applications and data. With a single solution, organizations are able to seamlessly deploy strong authentication for Web applications, Windows desktops, or remote VPN access. Unlike other point solutions in the market, Entrust IdentityGuard can deliver a flexible, strong, risk-based mutual authentication solution that can fit seamlessly into the user experience at a fraction of the cost of conventional hardware tokens.

“The Swedish Government is a world leader in offering advanced web-based services to its citizens and businesses,” said Hans Ydema, Managing Director of EMEA at Entrust. “We are delighted that Entrust IdentityGuard has been selected to play a key role in securing this critical platform, and believe that the government’s decision to make a large-scale implementation of Entrust IdentityGuard is a great testament to the strength of our offering.”

“We believe this contract signals a breakthrough for Entrust’s approach to user authentication, which is perfectly suited for organizations that are looking to enhance their online service offering to a wide range of users,” said Peter Larsson, CEO, Pointsec. Larsson continued, “Entrust IdentityGuard meets the security requirements, while being both very cost effective and easy to use.”
