#66842 RE: chipdesigner #66840

LOL! I bet you consider this underwhelming:

"At 2.0GHz, Yonah is basically equal to, if not slightly slower than an Athlon 64 X2 running at the same clock speed in virtually all of the tests we ran. The important distinction here is that Intel is able to achieve that level of performance, without an on-die memory controller. But there is also one more thing to note, Yonah can offer that level of performance with significantly lower power consumption"

Also, they used the 2.0GHz Yonah when 2.16GHz will be available at launch, with 2.33GHz to follow later in the year.

In terms of power, it dissipates 17W less than the X2 3800+ while idle and 36W less under load! So much for your FUD about Yonah being much higher power.

Anandtech seems to think Intel has a winner here. With near equal clock for clock performance and much lower power, Intel has the mobile market in the bag. And for those who are interested in good performance at lower power, the desktop market will now have chipsets that enable Yonah at much lower price points.
