From the Q3 CC transcript:

----
Dan Harrison - Harrison Bleiberg - Analyst Hi, Tom.

Tom Steipp - Liquidmetal Technologies - President, CEO
Hi, Dan. Tom, a couple of questions for you. Who paid for the four prototypes? Was that the customer or was that us?

Tom Steipp - Liquidmetal Technologies - President, CEO
Let me see. In two of them, we paid for the prototypes and two of them customer paid for the prototypes.

----

This is the only direct reference to prototype cost that I found in the Q3 or Q4 transcript. Perhaps there is more information elsewhere.

Cheers,

Keith

Actually he said we will absorb some.....so we don't know.... Like Keith said last conference it went 50/50..... This thing is on the verge of taking off......1 contract is all it takes.....and from what I'm reading the oil/gas companies just want to see if it works better as they will be detonating it so they won't be putting too much test on it to see how long it lasts ect... Like the medical and defense companies do.....IMO we can see an order from oil/gas companies come very quick!! I'm glad I'm in so I can relax and enjoy the ride when it comes.

Funny that it took Steip so long to realize that few, even the deepest of pockets, are going to lay out money for a mold of a product that hasn't been field tested and known to work. Kang learned a few things from his mistakes, and one of the major ones, early on, was that he could not afford to pay the molding costs for every prospective client. This is one of the things that Steipp should have learned while he was a consultant for LQMT in the 6 mos prior to his becoming CEO.

He also should have known about the SAGA deal sufficiently early in the process to have included that in the negotiations with Apple so that he would have netted more than 20 million from Apple in the August 2010 give-away.
