You are factually correct. However the reason the Pentium took off was because of the immense news coverage of the infamous FDIV bug. Intel had launched a big advertising campaign to promote Pentium with ads touting its multimedia capabilities, which began to find some interest amongst teenagers. However the FDIV bug became a big topic of discussion on the national news for days until Intel agreed to replace all Pentium units. Suddenly everyone knew about the Pentium and its sales took off.
