Pentium brand did not sell for almost a year.

I disagree with your attribution of this fact to branding issues.

The original Pentium (P5) was a hot pig in 0.8 um BiCMOS that barely
ran existing code faster than a decent 486. The P54 (0.6 um CMOS)
second generation Pentium had much better market acceptance with
the same name.
