Hello osprey: PMFJI. There are times when stop losses can be very painful. For instance, I held LUV *forever* and kept a stop loss at 10% below market. Then came 911 and when the market reopened, the stop loss hit and my long-time position was sold 2 cents above the day low. Of course, it recovered very nicely -- without me.
