As for not meeting expectations, SKS has toned down considerably and has been hesitant to say almost anything specific for reasons well understood. That has created its set of issues. Thus the OEM situation must have been very high probability when he said it. Certainly Gateway in its correspondance has not been shy to say they will be using Wave's software. What was surprising to me is that there are no contracts (and that Wave would have noted in if there was one) and that Gateway is creating a software security suite and thus it's not clear just how they will be using and selling wave's software.
As for your other point, I couldn't agree more. But I would add, my bigger question is timing than it is whehter Wave's products will get used. Time is not on our side. Without money there isn't a business. Also with respect to your comment, the longer the rollout, the higher the chance someone else, especially Infineon, will release a very competitive alternative.
The message so far has been even those enterprises who have consciously purchased a TPM equipped computer with security in mind, are in no rush to utilize them in their infrastructure. It doesn't feel like they will defer it through 2006, but it certainly seems like 2005 will be very scarce on implementations: something I didn't expect. Therefore despite the large TPM shipments, it's impossible to say that a 5% activation is a conservative guess for this year. If that is the case in 2006, then it just didn't happen but I don't think that is plausible.
