OK, got it, I think? So your were talking about CCS skepticism, not MVTG ERC skepticism. Looks like they made the smart move to me!!!
Project Pioneer Abandonment raises CCS Skepticism (Ind. Report) TransAlta Date: 2013-01-02 Following on our April 27, 2012 coverage of the decision to scrap Project Pioneer, a $1.4-billion project to capture CO2 emissions from an Alberta coal plant and store them underground, TransAlta is now less optimistic about the technology's feasibility going forward. Project Pioneer was backed by TransAlta, Enbridge Inc. and Capital Power Corp. and would have sold a portion of the capture CO2 to nearby Alberta oil producers for use in enhanced oil recovery activities.
Project Pioneer, which would have been connected to the Keephills 3 coal plant west of Edmonton, received $779 million in backing from Ottawa and Edmonton. Although an initial study found that CCS worked and the capital costs were in line with expectations, attitudes changed as planning moved forward and other methods of oil extraction improved.
