>> Why do you think that was? It usually doesn't take that long to bring a product to market, once you have the reference design running. Unless the Jan-12 demo was a mock-up without silicon.
I don't know. But I will guess that it has taken Intel relatively long time to productionize the SOC process (relative to producing discrete processors). If that's the cause, I sure hope the process has been shortened for Bay Trail.
Even though the Clover Trail reference design was publicised on Jan 12 2012, consumer products totally missed the year end selling season for 2012. Even now, they are still barely available, which is a further 4 months later. I wonder how long the life cycle of Clover Trail will be, and whether it will turn out to be profitable at all for Intel.
For Bay Trail SOC product to do any good for Intel during 2013, the process of going from reference design to availability in stores has to be cut in half relative to Clover Trail. Like most people here, I am hoping it will happen. I wish we can find some visibility indicators into whether it is running on schedule.
I do not recall whether a year ago Intel "promised" Clover Trail consumer products for year end 2012. Obviously Intel does not sell directly to consumers. But I hope they have some visibility into the OEM plans and schedule.
