Good news/bad news about ABT/ABBV when issued shares:

Good news: At E*Trade, I get a free carry on the ABT.WI purchase until the “real” shares of the new ABT begin trading on 1/2/13; i.e. my account has not been debited for this purchase.

Bad news: I can’t short ABBV.WI (effectively selling the ABBV I will receive from the split-up) because there are no shares available for borrowing.

Added to ABT.WI at 30.91. ABT.WI is now trading at only 47% of the share price of the pre-existing ABT, which is too low, IMO.
