The record companies make BILLIONS of dollars on CDs and MILLIONS of dollars on downloads. The argument you are presenting is that the labels have invested time, effort and money as well as risked alienating their consumers by copy protecting CDs only to cave for an increase 30 cents on the more popular songs purchased through downloads?

Collin, If I may state quite emphatically - Either way, 99 cents or a buck twenty nine or WHATEVER price a single track or album is sold via iTunes or ANY other legal download service the ENTIRE INDUSTRY will NOT give up protection just because of Apple. Take that to the bank.

Another issue. Consumer satisfaction. FACT. With the exception of transferring to an iPod, WHICH the Music Labels peg the problem with Apple and NOT with the protection, MediaMax is FAR and ABOVE the leader with the lowest number of complaints and / or issues. Well ahead of First4 for example. The labels are also WELL AWARE that MediaMax is READY to PLAY with APPLE, and is CURRENTLY the BEST product available that works best with CD players, PC's AND Macs! PERIOD.

CD sales vs. Download . - Currently not even close, even with great growth and expansion of downloads in the years ahead, the Industry feels CD's have a permanent place. CONSUMERS like CD's for reasons other than just the music. "album Covers", Bios, Pictures, lyrics. High numbers in which CD's are given as gifts, kinda hard to "giftwrap a download".

Quiet Period - Too many use "quiet period" too broadly. News and other info can come out during any "quiet period".

SunnComm, MediaMax and the ENTIRE Industry were reasonably expectant that Apple would have reacted differently by now. I do not blame Peter for that, BUT I FULLY understand this issue and am HIGHLY Optimistic and CONFIDENT that MediaMax will be WELL PLACED within this Industry.

Beyond CD's....DVD's. I am also optimistic that MediaMax will be a front runner here as well.
