Yup barter...a divy is one of a few ways to get a count on the valid shares that I know of.

Anything that affects the certs has the same effect I believe, including a name change, a move to another exchange, changing the CUSIP, and at least one other method that escapes me at the moment.

If there are any big short positions or counterfeit shares, Downs hasn't left em an inch of wiggle room at this point.

IDS has no desire or obligation to tip it's hand to the various factions, day traders,hedge funds, shorters that have been manipulating IDS share price. IDS has chosen to release the exact details to shareholders of record. IDS legal and tax counsel hopefully today or at latest tomorrow morning will arrive at the exact dividend payout and ex-dividend date.
