Hello all. Took a trading position in ANR on 10/1 (average of 6.58). Mostly based on the election promo Romney is giving coal.
IMO, thats alot of prime time advertising on a national scale for free considering that the presidential election is the source. He has made mention of his support for coal several times and even had some kind of pro coal sign behind him recently on camera(I have not seen it but believe I got it from a reputable news source), and we all know stuff like that gets cleared ahead of time by their advisers.
In other words, I mostly see him, after having made his fortune "investing", making making a pump for coal during an election bid? Well all I can think is he has an agenda. I believe he simply has an investment interest that would greatly benefit from one of the most unclean energy sources currently used getting a highly broadcasted leg up.
Steel production may give coal some kind of support but I personally dont like it for power production.
In short, I dont really like coal as an investment anymore and fully believe that even with"clean" coal its a mess that should be abandoned, but as long as Mitt wants to mention it during his presidential run I believe I will hold on to some for now but have a quick trigger finger if the polls dissagree.
And off topic, if you want to see some truly VAST quantities of shares shorted, check out SKUL (head phone maker found in Best Buy...). I believe they actually are making money, only have a 30 mil. OS which = tight float and are around 70% short LOL. May buy just a very small position just in case of a sqeeze but dont really know anything about them yet so I will wait till I know more.
