Dig

There's a difference between "on" and "turned on".

"On" would mean included or equipped.

"Turned on" would mean included, enabled and functioning.

Dig, funny thing about opt-in:

You "opt in" to get cable or dish tv, on a proprietary secured network. You actually pay for this service so they can give you less than 30 minutes of programming per hour, the rest commercials.
You "opt in" to use a cell phone on a proprietary network that has hardware security (SIM) module built in and permanently "on". In fact, up until a year or so ago, your phone number was the network's, not yours.
You "opt in" to give your personal information to use a closed Visa system, or Discover, or whatnot. What, cash not good enough for you?
You "opt in" to pay $10 for two hours of entertainment in a proprietary network of physical movie theatres secured by distribution rights, as well as security guards with guns. If you don't want to deal with security or people's intellectual rights, why don't you picket in front of said theatres with a sandwich board claiming Hollywood owes you free movies?
You "opt in" to your ATM network which is secured via hardware technology. I think you would be better off with your money in your mattress. Don't you?
You "opt in" every time you buy on-line and give someone your credit card number to be stored on an unfamiliar server with a HSM. Your information and credentials are spewed around the world for any pimple-faced kid working at any one of hundreds of global authorities to sell to a hacker if they wanted to.

You "opt in" to probably 500+ proprietary "secured" services (or what you THINK is secure) already, per year. Yet, when the PC platform decides to finally catch up to the rest of the world, it is a problem to "opt in". Funny.

I laugh when I see such trite commentary from people such as yourself when said person really has no clue what's going on around them. If you bothered to stop and think about your statement rather than espouse "masticated" opinions, you would realize how dumb you sound as a hypocrite already subscribing to what you complain about, whether you realized it or not. People like you amaze me. I think you should be the one person on an unsecured PC or phone in 5 years, so every hacker in the world will prey on you as an easy unsecured target. Then you can tell us how great life is as every service that requires electronic credentials will escape you, living "off the grid". Good luck buddy, but this is inevitable. If you think it isn't, you're not going to be happy with life ten years from now since just about everything will be digitized.

It is not a world of secure devices that scares me... it is a world of UNSECURED devices that scares the H@ll outta me.
