I know how local news rooms work but in this case, this was not a spontaneous news story. It involved several interviews of indetermined length... but certainly long enough to convince BLDW management that it was all about them.
I agree, that the reporter may have started with one idea for a story and wound up with another when the facts of her research led her to another conclusion but that makes it even more damning to management.
Either way, it was a mistake in judgment publicizing the news story without confirmation of what it was about. The interesting thing about it is, the reporter came to the same conclusion I did, that wind energy is not economically viable without subsidies and, with the exception of wind farms where conditions are ideal, they aren't viable with subsidies either.
If they were, Kohl's would have already ordered the other 4 buildings equipped and 21 Rio would have turbines merrily spinning away on top of their building right now.
As it is, BLDW is having to install another turbine on Kohl's in hopes of maybe changing their mind and ordering more and 21 Rio, after months of testing they demanded before ordering, still hasn't issued the buy order. Why??? The only reason I can come up with is, the ROI sucks... something already proven without any contradiction. After all, who wants an ugly turbine on top of your building it isn't not going to pay for itself and give a reasonable return on top of that? The answer... no one!
Conversly, who is going to turn down having a turbine installed on your building if it's going to pay for itself and put a meaningful amount of money in your pocket year after year.... the answer.. no one!!! You figure it out.
