Thanks CJ, Majority of patients alive in both bavituximab-containing arms
Results and summary
•Bavituximab is a novel monoclonal antibody with a tumor vascular-directed immune response
•Top-line results from this trial announced in May 2012 showed:
•Docetaxel plus bavituximab was well tolerated, with no apparent increase in toxicity rates compared to docetaxel plus placebo control arm
•The addition of bavituximab resulted in a doubling of the Overall Response Rate (ORR) (ie, tumor shrinkage)
•The addition of bavituximab resulted in a 50% improvement in Progression-Free Survival (PFS)
•Docetaxel plus bavituximab demonstrated a significant improvement in Overall Survival (OS) compared to docetaxel alone
•Median OS was reached in the docetaxel-alone arm
•Majority of patients alive in both bavituximab-containing arms•Interim results and clinical trial data analysis to be provided as part of the Plenary Session today at 1:40 p.m. in Grand Ballroom I-III

9-7-12: Dr. Corey Langer’s Plenary “Daily Update” preview article shows 2nd-Line NSCLC data chart with Bavi/3mg at MOS=13.1 mos., Bavi/1mg at MOS=11.1 mos., CTL MOS=”6.0? mos.”, and P-val = .02.

9-7-12: “Plenary Session Highlights Top Meeting Science”
By Corey Langer MD, Thoracic Symposium Program Committee member
http://thoracicsymposium.org/Thoracic-Daily/tdaily_detail_97_5.html

The Plenary Session at the 2012 Chicago Multidisciplinary Symposium in Thoracic Oncology is marked by several new presentations centering on the role of targeted agents in advanced non-small cell lung cancer, as well as updates of trials recently presented at the ASCO Meeting in Chicago in June. . .

At today’s Plenary Session, David Gerber and colleagues report on the results of a randomized phase II, placebo-controlled trial evaluating 2 different doses of bavituximab (1 or 3 mg/kg weekly) in combination with standard docetaxel 75 mg/m2 every 3 weeks. Results are promising, but require phase III confirmation.

Dr. Langer is the director of thoracic oncology at the Abramson Cancer Center and professor of medicine at The Univ.y of Pennsylvania. He will be one of the discussants at the Plenary Session today at 12:30pmCT in Grand Ballroom I-III.
