Madness and other physical and mental calamities occur naturally as well, one could wonder if they should be left to their own. I am not really privy to the way homosexual view themselves, but the term "coming out of the closet" indicates to me that they themselves view that, at least initially as a "trouble they could do without" the same way manic depressive could do without the troubles that condition imposes on them.
If I remember correctly, the original biblical banning of homosexuality had to do with the fact that pagans used to practice it as part of religious rituals, which of course, monotheism had to abolish completely (with all other ritual practiced as part of paganism, like cooking a kid in his mother milk).
