guarantee you knight capital isn't going anywhere, many financial institutions will step up to bail them out...not that I want to see it happen, but it will unfortunately....
They took over Penson and do over 11% of total market volume...someone will gladly pick them up just to take their market share. A ton, and I mean a ton of professional traders via their broker dealers use KCG execution software for all of their trades.
However, I personally know of one broker/dealer that dropped all connections w/ KCG today and had all traders stop routing orders through KCG or any of it's various execution algorithms
