Yep - I have been saying that the equities markets would be Greenspan's primary focus ever since he and Bernanke spoke right after the last rate cut and said they were going to do whatever it took to avoid deflation. Greenspan specifically mentioned that they had done intervention and "other than normal" Fed support for the economy and would not hesitate to do so in the future if needed. He has been true to his word so far.
As for running the price of an issue up in order to get out at a profit, that is done all the time. Nothing new about that. It does not always work, but the folks that do such are professionals and know what they are doing.
