This might go way back. When the original collaboration was ELN and WYE, WYE had the rights to speak for both. That right transferred to PFE when they bought WYE. I was, however, under the impression that they did not retain that when JnJ and ELN joined forces. They may actually be in breach of contract. Not unlikely considering it's PFE.
At any rate, the announcement, given the P2 data, was neither unexpected nor surprising. It is the carriers who have the best shot at having some meaningful benefit.
The only thing surprising about today was that PFE chose to make an announcement.
