actually my views are still back in the 1800's. I see no reason why there should be a public school if everyone in the school district goes to private school as is the case.

I also see no reason why if a community was 100 percent islamic that they would not have the freedom to teach what they wanted to their own children.

I just do not want either the Islamists or the Hassids deciding what to put into my childs head.

new vernon new jersey has no school system either other than a little elementary school. the average house price is about 1.5 million and it has 3 acre lots

brainlessone, I believe New Jersey's education statute is written so that a Kiryas Joel scenario would not occur here.

Our state law recognizes the public sector responsibility to provide special educational services to all special needs kids, while also recognising the parent's right to educate a child in the tradition of their choosing. In New Jersey, children who are educationally "classified" are entitled to publically funded special services in the school that they attend. ie Classified children attending private schools (religious, or other) are eligible to receive necessary services, in their respective private schools. The cost of services is the burden of the "sending district" or municipality in which the child resides.

Therefore, NJ statute would satisfy the special educational and religious needs of it's children, and a Kiyas Joel scenario would not be an issue - I think..... Regardless, I think any effort to Christianize, Judaize, Islamize, or Hinduize, etc, our public sector ed system should concern us all. And I'm not talking about a couple of benign holiday symbols in December either.... I'm talking about an effort to "take back" whatever - by any one group that has no right to "take back" anything from the whole.....
