#199 RE: LG #193

Well LG, there were a lot Raleighites who didn't excuse the local power company here for not being able to restore power for eleven days or more when a Cat 3 Hurricane hit coming 100 miles inland...no one expected the Hurricane to level trees from the coast to the Piedmont. The power company wasn't prepared, neither was the Piedmont...we are better prepared now, so is local government all the way to state government.

I applaud the officials in NO for getting 80% of the population out of the city in 48 hours....that's a lot of lives saved. I believe getting the city evacuated was top priority....

++++Smoke flares could be used to help folks locate the gathering zones during the day and beacon lights during the night. At these gather areas positioned well above possible flood levels with plenty of room for rolks to gather...a generator with fuel for a week to power lights, ham radio, small P/A system (bull horn at the least), portable TV, AM/FM Radio, etc. Also stored at each location would be water, food (meals ready to eat), baby formula, first aid supplies, blankets, tarps, umbrellas, etc, trash bags to be used for both trash and as human waste receptacles, toilet paper, sanitary napkins, etc could have been stored in advance at each location.

And just where would you have secured this with 135 mph gusts ripping through a city under sea level....? They didn't a have a week to prepare for this, they had 48 hours.

katie....
