no you are dead on. I think that is now starting to take place and I believe there are only two currently still playing their games Knite and one other. It would appear they may be trying to slowly recover shares and short sell others to get the money to do it. But eventually they may end up losing money. But right now I would guess they are trying to make their loss as low as possible.
