#292 RE: GW Pharma #291

Yes indeed its very impressive that OPL will be the first to achieve to combine optics & electronics on one monolithic chip. I have to say that I didn't do DD on Apple' I-Phone, I only read about it so I can't really assess how well it is performing, but so far I haven't come across complaints with GaAs. I'm not sure what your friend meant with 'volume', did he mean in the amount of workload, as in GHz/GB's? A few people I know attended the last AGM and they spoke to Dr Taylor and I believe he told them that POET could handle 500 GB's and have a clock rate of 100 GHz. I'm not too technically inclined but an average computer works at 2 - 3 GHz so that would mean a lot of improvement. Albeit that your friend is probably right that they will first have a prototype and that further tweaking will get incremental superior results.. Having said that BAE Systems is working since 2008 with OPL so in about 4 years time they will produce a product that is ready for commercialization that already went thru the incremental tweaking process. I think...
