Personally, I wish we were all well informed people with enough mathematical skills that it didn't take all day to explain to one another which tax principle would be better for us.
If we were all mathematicians, then politicians in Washington wouldn't be able to pull the wool over our eyes and tweek the tax code so that it favored special interests over general interests. In my view, the tax code absolutely needs to favor the general interest in order for our economy to be strong, and in order for our nation to be out of debt.
It sounds like you recognize at least part of this, but in spite of that it still comes across more that you're trying to catch Elmer in a contradiction, as opposed to making a good point and educating the thread over the lesser of two tax evils.
